Being Green is Key to a Happy Working Life

More than half of the UK’s workers feel they would be happier and more positive at work if the companies they work for were more supportive of their efforts to be green, a national survey has found. Commissioned as part of Avery Green Office Week, the new research demonstrates that companies who take their environmental responsibilities seriously are far more likely to benefit from a productive, happy and motivated workforce.

Despite the clear link between being green and being happy, 41% of workers said they had previously found themselves in an awkward situation with their bosses in the past simply for trying to positively implement green practices at work. A further 40% say they would avoid suggesting greener working initiatives because they wouldn't want to be seen as ‘nagging’, which could reflect badly on their career prospects.

The importance of companies supporting their employees’ environmental efforts doesn't stop there. One...

Four Pillars Hotels has also recently introduced another green initiative for companies concerned about the effect of their carbon footprint when it comes to hosting events and conferences. Through a partnership with OxTreeGen (who offer sustainable woodlands in the UK) Four Pillars has devised a solution to mitigate the effect of an event’s carbon footprint, by calculating what it would take to make the event carbon neutral and then planting the requisite number of trees. www.meetingsfouryou.co.uk has an online calculator tool to determine how many trees would need to be planted to offset an event or meeting. Fitzharrys School Council have teamed up with Fone Twigs to recycle old and unwanted mobile phones. Not only are the old phones recycled in an environmentally friendly way, but for every phone received a tree will be planted thus helping to create new woodlands on sites throughout the UK. The aim is to create bio-diverse habitats that will help to reduce Co2 and provide enjoyment future generations to come.

Our first collection ran from 18-25 March and yielded 31 phones.   The ‘phones were collected from their boxes at lunchtime on Friday and by the beginning of the afternoon a group of Fitzharrys students were planting the saplings in the glorious sunshine.

Re: Nick Thomas out inspecting some of OxTreeGen's trees planted last season
Hi Sarah, we could do something to help i'm sure, but we also have a campaign called Fone Twigs, which is a mobile phone recycling project that results in a tree being planted for each handset sent to us.

Give me a call on 07702806499 or nick.thomas@oxtreegen.com and I can go through it with you.

Thanks for reading our OxTreeGen blog
